How to Use the Site: Fromthetop.org offers multiple ways to engage students
in learning about music and young musicians. This guide will introduce educators
to the wealth of material available on Fromthetop.org and offer suggestions
as to how it may be utilized.
Cultural Leadership: From
the Top's Cultural Leadership program celebrates and nurtures young
musicians through training workshops, professional mentoring, assistance with
self-designed school or community projects, outreach placement, and additional
support.
Make Your Own Radio Show: From the
Top and Young Audiences present an education project in which students
work together to create their own unique From the Top-esque
radio shows featuring musicians from their own school community.
Spotlight on Music: A new textbook series
from Macmillan/McGraw-Hill featuring some of the From the Top
radio show's most memorable young musicians.
Young Composer Project: From
the Top's Young Composer Project initiates a deeper exploration into
the exciting and dynamic world of composers, highlighting their unique musical
and personal choices. The project is open to composers aged 9-18.
MENC Lesson Plans: Check out seven music lesson
plans for middle and high school music teachers featuring some of the From
the Top radio show's favorite guest artists, created by From
the Top and MENC: The National Association for Music Education.
Activities: Have some fun with our engaging educational activities, based around several different subjects!
Essay Contest: From the Top's essay contest, "What Inspires You?" Piloted with the Elgin Symphony Orchestra, this essay contest is open to all elementary, middle, and high school studes, grades 2-12, of Illinois School District U46. The deadline for entry is April 10, 2006.
