Sean Robbins Brings Unique Talent to Students in Hilo, HI

After appearing on From the Top, 16-year-old slack-key guitarist Sean Robbins of Pahoa, HI organized a series of interactive performances for elementary students of Hilo, HI.

What: three 45-minute interactive performances for fourth graders at the Hilo Union Elementary School

When: May 12, 2010

How: Sean had to gain permission from the school’s principal, but had a strong connection to the school through his mother, a teacher at Hilo Union Elementary. After receiving permission, he developed a program that focused primarily on slack-key guitar, and incorporated genres ranging from traditional Hawaiian to Reggae music.

“This was an extremely rewarding project and I am very glad that I did it. My goal was to inspire the kids to play music, and show them that it is a viable career.” – Sean
