Workshops & Training

The Arts Leadership Workshop takes place the morning after every live radio taping and is the culmination of the From the Top experience.

During this 90-minute workshop, performers gather to reflect on their experience being on the show, learn about the mission of From the Top, and gain new insights about how they can use their talents to give back. The workshop focuses on the power of personal connection in reaching audiences and challenging stereotypes about classical music. In an informal, discussion-based forum, performers learn about the projects of their peers, share their own experiences, and leave armed with information and resources to take action at home. 

In-depth Leadership workshops

From the Top works with partner arts organizations and other youth groups to offer more in-depth leadership training. Ranging from two to five hours, these include deeper investigation of the topics covered in the introductory workshop and can be tailored to suit the individual needs of the group.

This year, we worked with the Boston Children’s Chorus (BCC), who appeared on show #195. In June 2009, we led the first of a two-part leadership workshop for chorus members in preparation for their trip to Jordan. (The second workshop will take place in October.)

Overview of the BCC Arts Leadership Training

From the Top tailored our curriculum for the BCC so participants can:

  • Explore the topics of civic engagement and leadership in the context of their experience as members of the BCC
  • Identify and explore leadership opportunities both within the BCC community and in the greater Boston community

The specific goals for the workshops are:

  • Increasing self-awareness of their own leadership assets and challenges
  • Developing a personal vision and a shared vision for the BCC community
  • Developing and practicing skills in effective communication with diverse audiences
  • Exploring and identifying likely challenges, resources and steps involved in successful project implementation
