James Kitch, cello

Hometown: Belmont, MA

Meet James

JAMES KITCH, cello, is currently a student of Mrs. Laura Blustein, and principal cellist of the Massachusetts Youth Symphony Project (MYSP). Now in 10th grade, he was twice selected as principal cellist for the Northeastern Junior District orchestras, and also is a member of the concert and chamber orchestras at Belmont High School. Getting into his second season with CDAL, he participated in the MusiConnects residency at the Chittick Elementary School last spring, and loves spreading people’s awareness and love of classical music. He first picked up the cello in the 3rd grade music program at his school, finding it especially appealing because he got to sit down while playing and enjoyed its low, rich sound. Besides playing the cello, he loves to do anything involving the outdoors and his favorite hobbies are running, Nordic skiing and experimenting with culinary projects. In addition to the classical style, he enjoys playing jazz and fiddle music. He can’t wait for the CDAL year ahead of him!
