Show 143 | Elgin, Illinois

Recorded: Tuesday, May 2, 2006

This week, From the Top comes to you from Hemmens Cultural Center in Elgin, Illinois, where you'll meet outstanding musicians from 14 to 18 years old, including a young pianist from Wyoming performing Rachmaninoff and a teenage violinist from Elgin performing Lutoslawski. Also, Roving Reporter Hayley Goldbach challenges a fabulous 18-year-old cellist to a very "genteel" game of ping-pong -- with disastrous results.

Performers and Repertoire:

The Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra and bagpiper Carl Donley, 17, performs "An Orkney Wedding, with Sunrise" by Peter Maxwell Davies
