This week, from the National Youth Orchestra Festival in Sarasota, Florida, you’ll hear a special episode of our show featuring five of the country’s best youth orchestras, including the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra, the American Youth Philharmonic from the Washington, DC area, and the Minnesota Youth Symphony. It’s going to be a real battle of the bands with 500 kids on one stage at the Sarasota Opera House!

Performers and Repertoire:

The Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra from Dallas, TX, performs Overture to Candide by Leonard Bernstein. Conducted by Richard Giangiulio.

The Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra from Atlanta, GA, performs the finale from Three Cornered Hat by Manuel DeFalla. Conducted by Jere Flint.

The American Youth Philharmonic from Washington, DC, performs “Nimrod” from Enigma Variations by Edward Elgar. Conducted by Luis Haza.

The Minnesota Youth Symphony performs “La Tumba de Alejandro Garcia Caturla” from Islas y Montanas by Shelley Hanson. Conducted by Manny Laureano.

The Milwaukee Youth Symphony performs the “Berceuse and Finale” from the Firebird Suite by Igor Stravinsky. Conducted by Margery Deutsch.
