On the Road with Joanne Robinson: Show #225 Yountville, CA

Last Sunday we taped a show in one of the most beautiful areas of the country – Yountville, California in the heart of the Napa Valley. We took in the gorgeous vineyards, sampled the delicious food, and, of course, experienced amazing music-making!

First up on our program, the very young Mondo Trio from San Francisco Conservatory’s Prep Division played from Beethoven’s Piano Trio No. 4. We videotaped their performance and you’ll get to see it online when the show airs! Next up was our local insider, 12-year-old pianist Marie Kelly, who played Bartok, and told us all about what its like to grow up in Napa. Her dad (the head sommelier at the renowned restaurant The French Laundry) joined her onstage for an added treat! Next up was 17-year-old clarinetist Perry Choi, who performed Mozart and spoke about a fantastic outreach program he created. We were then joined by one of our alums, talented soprano Alisa Jordheim, who treated the audience to three selections from The White Election by Gordon Getty. We were lucky enough to have the composer himself in the audience! The show closed with an especially fiery piece – the third movement from the Barber Violin Concerto, Op. 14 played by 15-year-old Nikita Haduang.

The next day, Elizabeth Devore (production manager extraordinaire) and I took a little tour of the Napa Valley. Of course I brought my flipcam along for the ride. Check out the footage below from our day in scenic Wine Country, and make sure to tune in when our Yountville show hits the air, the week of February 7th!
