Arts Leadership Grant guidelines and eligibility

Application Requirements and Deadline

Applicants must submit all the following materials by March 15, 2017:

  1. A completed application, which includes the following documents
    • Purpose Statement (see Application Checklist)
    • Proposed timeline of project tasks (See Example)
    • Proposed budget for grant, including income and other potential sources of funding (See Template)
    • (Optional) A current resume, detailing relevant experience
  2. Two (2) recommendation letters, emailed directly from recommenders to

From the Top alumni ages 16–26 who have appeared on the From the Top radio show, been part of From the Top’s See the Music videos, or have participated in The Center for the Development of Arts Leaders (Boston) are eligible to apply. Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

Applicants age 18 and under will be required to have consent from a parent/legal guardian, acknowledging the applicant’s intention and ability to follow through with their proposed initiative if awarded the Arts Leadership Grant.

Deadlines/Key Dates

February 1, 2017 Application opens

March 15, 2017 Application closes

May 1, 2017 All applicants will be notified of their status and awards announced

June 1 to December 31, 2017 Granting period

February 1, 2018 Final reports due

Upon acceptance, grantees will be paired with a member of the From the Top education staff to advise them throughout the granting period. With their advisor, recipients will establish benchmarks and deadlines, meeting on a regular basis to review the status of the project, budget, and documentation.

Funding Restrictions and Grant Disbursement 

Applicants must submit a budget proposal with their application, detailing the potential use of grant funds. Please be aware of the following funding restrictions:

Eligible expenses include

  • consultant fees (eg. artists’ honoraria)
  • supplies
  • transportation
  • travel and lodging
  • audio/visual services
  • photography or video recording/editing
  • venue and equipment rental
  • marketing/design
  • printing
  • postage

Ineligible expenses include

  • employee salaries (or your own)
  • commissions
  • tuition
  • school fees

Project Documentation and Evaluation

Grantees will be asked to document their projects through photos, videos, and written reflection, to capture and share their learning. The grantee’s From the Top advisor will assist recipients in refining your documentation and presentation plan.

Upon completion, grantees will be required to submit a final report including a reconciled budget, photo/video documentation, and evaluation of impact.
