How to apply: Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award

  • Click on the “Apply Now” button at the bottom of this page. Follow instructions to sign up and register for an account on FluidReview
  • Once you’ve completed registration, click the “Get Started” button
  • You’ll arrive at a page that shows your application status. Click “Start” to the right of the “Fill out your application” text
  • On the first page, fill out your applicant information and under “I am applying for” heading select “NPR’s From the Top with Host Christopher O’Riley” or “Both” the radio show and Center for the Development of Arts Leaders (CDAL). Please note: applicants to “Both” the radio show and CDAL must live within 25 miles of Boston during the academic year
  • On the second page, under the “Application type” question, select either “Soloist”, “Composer”, or “Small Ensemble.” You’ll also be prompted on this page to enter your instrument or voice type
  • You will be asked if you are interested in applying for the Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award. Select “Yes”

b. Complete “Education information” page
c. Complete “Music information” page
d. Complete “More about you” page
e. Complete “Essays” page
f. Complete “Arts leadership” page
g. Complete “Demographic information” page
h. Complete “Upload your audition media” page

  • Click “Save & Exit.” You’ll be returned to the status page
  • Review your application and check for errors
  • Submit your application. Please note: clicking the “Submit your application” button will finalize your application and you will no longer be able to edit any information. You will need to submit your application before you are able to begin the large ensemble application
  • Click the “Start” text to the right of the “Scholarship application” text

a. Complete “Essay” page
b. Complete “Draft budget” page
c. Complete “Household information” page
d. Complete “Tax information” page
e. Complete “Assets information” page
f. Complete “Financial aid information” page
g. Complete “Musical and academic recommendations” page
h. Review “Document submission” page

  • Click “Save & Exit.” You’ll be returned to the status page
  • Click the “Start” text to the right of the “Provide academic recommendation” text
  • Enter contact information for your academic recommender
  • Click the “Start” text to the right of the “Provide musical recommendation” text
  • Enter contact information for your musical recommender
  • Submit completed application. Please note: clicking the “Submit completed application” button will finalize your application and you will no longer be able to edit any information
  • Submit the following documents by mail:

a. Academic Transcript: a copy of your most recent school grade transcript, including your current, cumulative GPA if applicable. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable.
b. Standardized test score reports(if applicable): Unofficial reports are acceptable.
c. 2016 Federal Tax Forms:a copy of all federal tax forms, W2 Forms, and any schedules and attachments that accompany your Federal Tax Forms. Note: IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT WE RECEIVE YOUR ENTIRE TAX RETURNThis does sometimes mean you will be sending us 30 pages or more of documents, and yes – we really do want all of it!
OR
For those applicants whose families did NOT file taxes in the United States in 2016, you must submit a statement (in English, or a certified translation into English) from each employer listing the employer’s name, the parent’s/guardian’s job title, and all income and benefits for the equivalent of U.S. Tax Year 2016, calculated in U.S. dollars.
d. Although not required, you may also elect to submit any additional documents (limit 5 pages) that you feel we might find interesting, including a list of additional repertoire you might have prepared, a short musical biography, any newspaper clippings, etc.
