Meet Ellen

ELLEN DENG is a sophomore violinist at Newton South High School, where she also produces graphics for the newspaper and is an active member of the debate team, a winner of the state debate championship, and a member of the Harvard Forum for Leadership Initiatives. She has played with a variety of chamber groups and orchestras, such as the Eastern District music festivals, New England Conservatory Festival Youth Orchestra, and is currently playing with the Boston Youth Symphony under the direction of Federico Cortese. Along with playing the violin, Ellen has taught herself viola; she plays the viola in various chamber groups and instructs beginner viola players. Outside of classical music, Ellen is a two-time winner of the Bolton Fiddling Competition. When she is not playing, Ellen enjoys reading, drawing, and cooking.
