Meet Nygel

Nygel Witherspoon (cello), 17, hails from Minneapolis, Minnesota, where is currently taking college credits at the University of Minnesota and studying cello performance with Tanya Remenikova. He is a recipient of From the Top’s Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award. He has been featured on Minnesota Public Radio’s Minnesota Varsity and performed with the Minnesota Orchestra. This year, he won the junior division of the Sphinx Competition, and was a semi-finalist in the Friends of the Minnesota Orchestra Young Artist Competition. He performs on a cello generously donated by the Virtu Foundation.

Nygel begins his studies at Curtis Institute of Music this fall with Peter Wiley.
