From the Top comes to you from New England Conservatory’s Jordan Hall this week and includes a duo of brothers performing an original composition, an 18-year-old flutist playing the Carmen “Fantaisie” and our first two Jack Kent Cooke Young Artists, who will each receive $10,000 to further their musical education.

Performers and Repertoire:

Cellist Rachel Gawell, 17 from Arnold, MD, performs I. Prologue from Cello Sonata No.1 in D minor, L.135, by Claude Debussy

Pianist Felix Zhang,15 from Berwyn, PA, performs the Polonaise No. 6 in A-flat major, “Héroique” by Frederick Chopin

The Project STEP String Quartet (violinists Marta Rymer, 16 from Dorchester, MA, and Robin Gilbert, 17, from Providence, RI; violist and Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Barbara Vante, 17, from Mattapan, MA; and cellist and Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Tony Rymer, 15, from Natick, MA) performs “Lyric for Strings” by George Walker

Flutist Cristina Vigilante, 18, from Gladwyne, PA, performs “Fantaisie” (on themes from Bizet’s Carmen) by Francois Borne

Cellist Todd Kramer, 15, and violinist Bennett Kramer, 17, from Belle Terre, NY, performing “Suite Behaalot’cha” for violin and cello, I. Behaalot’cha, II. Zechariah, III. Menorah (IV. Levi) by Todd Kramer
