This week’s From the Top comes to you from the Burgin Center for the Arts at Mercersburg Academy in Pennsylvania. You’ll hear outstanding musicians from 15 to 17 years old, including a teenage trombonist from Florida performing the music of Leonard Bernstein and a student from here at the Academy performing the first movement of the Beethoven “Pathetique” Sonata. Also, a teenage baritone will show you just how similar the life of the classical musician is to the life of a Hollywood action hero.

Flutist Priscilla Wadsworth, 16 from West Blocton, AL, performs I. Allegro from the Concierto Pastorale by Joaquin Rodrigo

Pianist Julie Sohn, 15, from Mercersburg, PA, performs I. Grave – Allegro di molto e con brio from the Sonata No.8 in C minor, Op.13 “Pathétique” by Ludwig van Beethoven

Trombonist Alexis Smith, 17, from Palm Beach Gardens, FL, performs “Elegy for Mippy II” by Leonard Bernstein.

Baritone Benjamin Hyman, 17, from Fort Washington, PA, performs “Sylvie” by Gabriel Fauré

Violinist and Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Piotr Filochowski, 15, from Saddlebrook, NJ, performs “La Ronde des Lutins” (The Round of the Goblins) by Antonio Bazzini
